In 1997 Rugh has given an expression, which relates the inverse microcanonic temperature \(1/T=\partial_E ln \rho(E)\), where \(\rho(E)\) is the density of states, to an expectation value that can be measured in Monte Carlo simulations, or alternatively real time dynamics simulations of the microcanonic ensemble. For the case of classical Heisenberg spins we discuss applications for a): the improvement of broad histogram sampling and b): principal studies of inhomogeneous theories. The numerical data as presented in the talk are of explorative nature.
