Long-range nematic order in two-dimensional liquid crystals (?)

This seminar will deal with only one question, which is surprisingly simple to formulate. Take a system of rods in two dimensions and increase the density. If the density becomes high enough, do the rods then line-up over macroscopically large distances, or do they not?
