Ultrathin Magnetic Oxides for Spintronics
Jun.-Prof. Martina Müller (Forschungszentrum Jülich)

Functional metal oxides are at the heart of such diverse research areas as nano, spin- and opto-electronics. An exciting prospect in the field of oxide spintronics is combining insulating magnetic oxides in functional oxide heterostructures. Both fundamental properties and novel phenomena emerge from emerging magnetic oxides into all-oxide hybrids, which will enable novel applications to generate highly spin-polarized currents, realize spin injector contacts or confined electron gases. We propose and study multifunctional oxide heterostructures for such applications, which requires a fundamental understanding of oxide synthesis, redox processes and the spin-dependent electronic structure.
