Several techniques of high resolution and high sensitivity laser spectroscopy are discussed and illustrated by some examples, as for instance spectroscopy in molecular beams, polarization spectroscopy optothermal spectroscopy and double resonance techniques. Applications in biology and medicine should demonstrate the potential of laser spectroscopy. At last a short discourse in laser-assisted astronomy is presented.
