X-Rays for Science, and Powerful X-Rays for Science of Materials in Extreme Conditions
Prof. Dr. Roger Falcone (University of California, Berkeley)

I'll discuss the scientific capabilities of x-rays for studying a variety of scientific issues from the perspective of a x-ray synchrotron facility director. I will also discuss recent work using x-rays to study matter under extreme temperatures and pressures using powerful lasers and x-ray lasers. Imaging, spectroscopy, and scattering play important roles in understanding matter as it moves into the plasma state.
