Spin Superfluidity in Coplanar Multiferroics: theory and applications
Dr. Wei Chen (Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research, Stuttgart)

An emerging concept in the field of spintronics is the spin superfluidity. In a magnetic insulator, distorting the magnetic order produces a spin supercurrent that originates from virtual hopping of d electrons. Particularly in multiferroics that have strong magnetoelectric effect, we have recognize that electric field plays the role of gauge field in the spin superfluidity, which enables several phenomena unique to superconductivity, such as flux quantization and persistent supercurrent, to be realized also in multiferroics. We further discuss the possibility of tunneling an external spin current through multiferroics, and propose several devices that enable dissipationless spin transport over a long distance.
All interested are cordially welcome!
