Particle identification (PID) detectors like the PANDA barrel DIRC (Detection of Internally Reflected Cherenkov light) need front end electronics able to couple with high rate and small signals. High precision timing is of key importance in order to achieve high PID performances. The results of the R&D studies, performed in Mainz, as well the future developments will be presented.
