Quantization in static gauge

Particle and string dynamics in a curved background is investigated in static gauge, with a main emphasis on AdS spaces.
In case of a particle, a scheme for fixing the ordering ambiguity for the energy operator is proposed and its relation to the covariant quantization is found. Hamiltonian reduction of string dynamics in static gauge is analyzed and the space-time critical dimension is calculated from the commutation relations of the boost operators.
