First observation of single proton spin flips in a Penning trap
Dr, Crícia de Carvalho Rodegheri (WA Quantum, Universität Mainz)

An experiment is presented which aims at the direct determination of the g-factor of a single proton isolated in a Penning trap. In the presence of a magnetic bottle of 300 mT/mm2, single proton spin flips were observed fort he very first time. The magnetic moment has been determined with a relative uncertainty of 8.9 × 10-6. This represents a milestone towards the direct determination of the proton magnetic moment with extremely high precision. This breakthrough brings us closer to the possibility of testing matter-antimatter symmetry at a high precision level in the baryon sector.
