Predictive powers of chiral EFT in Compton scattering and (radiative) pion production
Vladimir Pascalutsa (KPH Mainz)

After a brief introduction to effective-field theories (EFT), I will discuss the power counting in the baryon sector of chiral EFT and present a few calculations in this theory. Up to the next-to-next-to leading order (NNLO) the calculation of Compton scattering is "predictive", viz. has no free parameters, but, despite agreeing well with the 2001 TAPS/MAMI cross-section data, disagrees with values for proton polarizabilities extracted from these data. Pion electroproduction and radiative pion photoproduction experiments at MAMI will also be discussed in this context.
