Since the early days of pulsed gradient spin echo NMR, it was realised that restricted diffusion could provide a window on sample structure in porous media. Later, diffusive diffraction methods showed that a structure factor could be derived, akin to a scattering experiment. In the last few years, the development of double scattering methods has shown how the method can derive new power, even leading to the chance of imaging porous media at the sub-micron scale.
