I will start with a brief introduction to QCD and to the concept of effective field theories. Recently such an effective field theory has been proposed for systems where light vector and pseudoscalar mesons are the active degrees of freedom. I will mainly focus on the results of this scheme for leading-order calculations of various vector-meson decays. The scheme allows for a systematic extension of the vector-meson dominance model. This will be illustrated by studying electromagnetic transition form factors. Cross relations to pseudoscalar transition form factors are also discussed.
