The Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix describes the mixing of the quark mass eigenstates to eigenstates of the weak interaction. One single complex phase in the CKM matrix is the source of CP violation in the Standard Model. The experiments BABAR (at the B-factory PEP-II at SLAC) and Belle (KEK-B, KEK) were conceived and built to measure the parameters of the CKM matrix in the system of B mesons.
