A lattice approach to quantum gravity
Prof. Dr. Jan Ambjorn (Niels Bohr Institut, Kopenhagen)

In the colloquium I will propose a non-perturbative definition of quantum gravity, using the lattice to provide a short distance cut-off. The lattice field theory can be simulated on the computer, and I will show how a macroscopic universe seemingly emerges from the mundane field theory. I will also show how in principle to connect to the renormalization group approach. Like this latter approach, the assumption underlying the lattice model is that of asymptotic safety.
