It has long been known that large corrections to cross-sections result from the multiple emission of soft gauge bosons, in either abelian or non-abelian theories. I review the exponentiation of these corrections in the eikonal approximation, before introducing a new technique for describing soft gluon emission using path integral methods. The framework can be easily generalised to beyond the eikonal approximation, and I will use this to classify the structure of matrix element corrections at next-to-eikonal level.
