Quantum Teleportation between light and matter

In this talk I will discuss the first experimental demonstration of interspecies teleportation between an atomic and a photonic object. The state of a mesoscopic light pulse containing up to 300 photons is transferred onto the collective state of an atomic ensemble of 10¹² Cesium atoms. This is an important step towards e.g. distributed quantum networks in which the exchange of information between “flying” and long lived “stationary” systems is essential.
