In this talk, I will present the outcome of the first beam time with the neutron decay spectrometer aSPECT. The spectrometer has been built to perform a precise measurement of the proton spectrum in the decay of free neutrons. The result is used to determine several free parameters in the theory of beta decay, that is the Standard Model.
