DESCRIPTION:I will describe some recent progress on the correspondence bet
ween four-dimensional ${\\cal N=2}$ superconformal field theories (SCFTs)
and two-dimensional vertex operator algebras (VOAs). In particular I will
introduce the notion of the “Higgs scheme”\, an extension by nilpotent
elements of the standard Higgs variety of an ${\\cal N=2}$ SCFT\, which p
lays a natural role in the associated VOA.\nUnlike the Higgs variety\, the
Higgs scheme appears to be a perfect invariant\, i.e. it conjecturally fu
lly characterizes the SCFT.

ach. By way of example and application\, I’ll then show how this provide

uivariant K-theory\, which has come to be known as the “10-fold way”\,
\n\n2. the neglected twisting of equivariant K-theory by “inner local sy

DESCRIPTION:BPS invariants of certain physical theories correspond to Dona
ldson-Thomas (DT) invariants of an associated Calabi-Yau geometry. BPS str
uctures refer to the data of the DT invariants together with their wall-cr
ossing structure. On the same Calabi-Yau geometry another set of invariant
s are the Gromov-Witten (GW) invariants. These are organized in the GW pot
ential\, which is an asymptotic series in a formal parameter and can be ob
tained from topological string theory. A further asymptotic series in two
parameters is obtained from refined topological string theory which contai
ns the Nekrasov-Shatashvili (NS) limit when one of the two parameters is s
ent to zero. I will discuss in the case of the resolved conifold how all t
hese asymptotic series lead to difference equations which admit analytic s
olutions in the expansion parameters. A detailed study of Borel resummatio
n allows one to identify these solutions as Borel sums in a distinguished
region in parameter space. The Stokes jumps between different Borel sums e
ncode the BPS invariants of the underlying geometry and are captured in tu
rn by another set of difference equations. I will further show how the Bor
el analysis of the NS limit connects to the exact WKB study of quantum cur
ves. This is based on various joint works with Lotte Hollands\, Arpan Saha
\, Iván Tulli and Jörg Teschner.

partition functions of 5d SU(2) supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory on M4 x S
1\, where M4 is a smooth closed four-manifold. Mathematically\, they can b
e identified with the K-theoretic version of the Donaldson invariants. In
particular\, we provide two different path integral derivations of their w
all-crossing formula for b_2^+(M4)=1\, first in the so-called U-plane inte
gral approach\, and in the perspective of instanton counting. We briefly d
iscuss the generalization to b_2^+(M4)>1.

y of modular and automorphic forms. It encompasses most of the available t
heory of modular forms in the literature\, such as those for congruence gr

on Hermitian symmetric domains\, Calabi-Yau modular forms\, with its examp
les such as Yukawa couplings and topological string partition functions\,
and even go beyond all these cases. Its main ingredient is the so-called

to the dimension of the Calabi Yau\ngeometry and the loop order of the Fe
ynman graphs. We exemplify \nthis for the Banana graphs\, the Ice Cone gra
phs and the Train Track graphs\nin two dimensions. In the latter case ther

reviewing the basics\, I will explain how Witten’s iepsilon prescription
gives a manifestly convergent representation of the amplitude. I will the
n consider the imaginary part of the amplitude and show directly that it s
atisfies the standard field theory cutting rules. This leads to an exact r
epresentation of the imaginary part of the amplitude. I will also discuss
physical properties of the imaginary part such as the singularity structur
e of the amplitude\, its Regge and high energy fixed-angle behaviour and l
ow-spin dominance. Finally\, I will tease how Rademacher’s contour can b
e used to evaluate the full one-loop open string amplitude exactly in term
s of a convergent infinite sum.

he divergences in the cylinder diagram in minimal string theory\, with bot
h boundaries lying on a ZZ brane. Minimal string theory refers to the theo
ry of two-dimensional gravity coupled to a minimal model CFT that serves a
s the matter sector\; it includes JT gravity as a limiting case. ZZ branes
are akin to D-instantons\, and give rise to features that reflect the und
erlying discreteness of the dual theory. The exponential of the cylinder d
iagram represents the one-loop determinant around the instanton saddle. Th
e finite result for this one-loop constant computed using the string field
theory procedure agrees precisely with independent calculations in the du
al double-scaled matrix integrals performed by several authors many years
ago.

DESCRIPTION:J-holomorphic curves or pseudoholomorphic curves are maps from
Riemann \nsurfaces to symplectic manifolds satisfying the Cauchy-Riemann
equations.\nJ-holomorphic curves are of great interest because they allow
to construct \ninvariants of symplectic manifolds and those invariants are
deeply related to \ntopological superstring theory. A crucial step toward
s Gromov–Witten \ninvariants is the compactification of the moduli space
of J-holomorphic curves \nvia stable maps which was first proposed by Kon
tsevich and Manin.\n\nIn this talk\, I want to report on a supergeometric
generalization of J-\nholomorphic curves and stable maps where the domain
is a super Riemann \nsurface. Super Riemann surfaces have first appeared a
s generalizations of \nRiemann surfaces with anti-commutative variables in
superstring theory. Super \nJ-holomorphic curves couple the equations of
classical J-holomorphic curves \nwith a Dirac equation for spinors and are
critical points of the \nsuperconformal action. The compactification of t
he moduli space of super J-\nholomorphic curves via super stable maps migh
t\, in the future\, lead to a \nsupergeometric generalization of Gromov-Wi
tten invariants.\n\nBased on arXiv:2010.15634 [math.DG] and arXiv:1911.056

smooth\, flat 3-manifold T3/Z2\, without supersymmetry. The low energy dy
namics of the corresponding ten dimensional heterotic supergravity will be
described. The semi-classical theory has both Coulomb and Higgs branches
of non-supersymmetric vacua. An exact worldsheet description of the compac
tification will then be presented using the framework of asymmetric orbifo
lds of T3\, where the orbifold generator involves a Nikulin non-symplectic
involution of the even self-dual lattice of signature (19\,3). This const
ruction gives a novel conformal field theory description of the semi-class
ical field theory moduli space and reveals a rich pattern of transitions a
mongst Higgs and Coulomb branches.

DESCRIPTION:The absence of global symmetries is widely believed to be a pr
inciple of quantum gravity. Recently\, it has been generalised to the stat
ement that the cobordism group of quantum gravity must be trivial. Indeed\
, a non-trivial group detects a higher-form global symmetry\, which has th
en to either be gauged or broken. In the case in which it is broken\, defe
cts have to be introduced into the setup. These can be end-of-the-world br
anes furnishing a dynamical realization of cobordism\, of which we will pr
ovide a new concrete example. In the case in which the symmetry is gauged\
, we will argue that there is a non-trivial interplay between cobordism an
d K-theory\, leading to the construction of type IIB/F-theory tadpoles fro
m a bottom-up perspective. This interpretation of cobordism and K-theory a
s charges in quantum gravity can be given further support when passing fro
m groups of the point to groups of a generic manifold X. We will argue tha
t these more general groups have a natural interpretation in terms of the
dimensional reduction of the theory on X. A systematic analysis can possib
ly lead to the prediction of new contributions to string theory tadpoles.

twisting" the target space CFT of conventional string theory. The physical
spectrum becomes finite and corresponds to the massless spectrum of close
d strings plus a single massive level of the open string. The underlying i
dea is to explore the field/string theory interface in both directions. On
one hand\, the goal is to generate effective field theories describing ma
ssive higher spins using worldsheet methods. Conversely\, we may try to us
e field theory methods to obtain a systematic description of string scatte
ring amplitudes using field theory methods.

DESCRIPTION:Supersymmetic flux vacua in Calabi-Yau compactifications are c
losely related to intricate number theoretic properties of the compactific
ation manifolds. Such relations are of interest to physicists and number t
heorists alike: On one hand these can be used to find new\, interesting fl
ux vacuum solutions and relate physical quantities to well-studied number
theoretic functions. On the other hand\, physical intuition allows one to
give examples of interesting number theoretic relations and obtain evidenc
e for various conjectures.\n\nTo study these relations\, we present a nove
l method\, based on symmetries of the compactification manifold\, for cons
tructing many large families of number theoretically interesting supersymm
etric flux vacua. We show that the zeta functions of the compactification
manifolds factorise\, as expected by the celebrated modularity conjectures
. The coefficients appearing in these factorisations can be associated to
elliptic curves which appear in various contexts: For instance\, we argue
that the value of the axiodilaton field associated to the flux vacua can b
e identified with the modulus of these elliptic curves. We also obtain ext
ensive evidence for the flux vacuum modularity conjecture proposed recentl
y by Kachru\, Nally\, and Yang.\n\nThis talk is based on arXiv:2302.03047

n correlation functions and arise in familiar models of massless\nquantum
electrodynamics and models of axions (as well as their non-\nabelian gener

y contains dynamical objects with all possible charges suggests that there
are still a number of hitherto-unidentified branes in string theory. Such
charges are classified by the bordism classes in the working EFT. In this
talk I will describe some of those charges and then discuss plausible wor
ldsheet descriptions of strings near the corresponding branes.

DESCRIPTION:Wild character varieties parametrize monodromy representations
of flat meromorphic connections on compact Riemann surfaces. They are cla
ssical objects with remarkable geometric and topological properties. In th
e past twenty years new insights from algebraic geometry lead to precise c
onjectures on the topological structure and complexity of character variet
ies. I will recall some of these conjectures and will sketch a strategy f
or approaching them. In particular I will describe recent joint works with
Chuang\, Diaconescu\, Donagi\, and Nawata in which we use dualities in ge
ometry and physics to extract cohomological invariants of wild character v
arieties from enumerative Calabi-Yau geometry and refined Chern-Simons inv
ariants of torus knots.
